How To Do Diamond Art

When my sister-in-law invited my daughter and I to a get-together at her house to work on Diamond Art, we had no idea this would become a new favorite family fun project!

We started with these small handbags:

It’s kinda like a paint by number. The surface comes covered with plastic that you peel back. It’s super sticky underneath where you stick the diamonds or beads. You just use the corresponding bead number to the number on the bag or other artwork. The kits come with a little stick that you “dip” into a little sticky wax that helps you pick up the bead.

For bigger projects I learned that the beads are hard to keep organized and they get everywhere quickly with kids (especially if you are using the kitchen table and this is a multi-day / week project for you, like ours is!).

So, naturally I had to pick up an organizer – which I did on Amazon.

Before I started the next big project I labeled the little jars and transferred the beads into their own labeled jars. I also put them in alphabetical order, so it was easier to locate the colors when I needed them.

Zavey spent HOURS for several days straight until she finished her piece, this cute little Stitch from Lilo and Stitch, the Disney movie.

Step-By-Step Instructions to Diamond Painting

Step 1:
Unpack Your Kit

Remove all items from your diamond painting kit. This typically includes a canvas, diamond applicator (pen), wax, diamonds in various colors, and a tray.

Step 2:
Prepare Your Workspace

Lay your canvas out on a clean, flat surface. Make sure you have good lighting and enough space to work comfortably.

Step 3:
Understand Your Canvas

Breeze through the canvas. The canvas is covered with symbols corresponding to the different colored diamonds. Each symbol corresponds to a color of a diamond.

Step 4:
Section Off Your Canvas

Section off your diamond painting using masking tape or washi tape. Find the middle of the canvas and apply the tape. Continue dividing the canvas into sections that you can work on one at a time.

Step 5:
Start with One Color

Choose a single color diamond to start with. Pour a small amount of diamonds of this color into the tray. If you hold the tray at a slight angle and shake it back and forth, the diamonds will settle right side up, making them easier to pick up.

Step 6:
Apply the Wax

Dip your pen tool into the provided wax. This will enable the pen to pick up the diamonds.

Step 7:
Pick Up the Diamonds

Use the pen tool to pick up a diamond by pressing the pen to the top of the diamond.

Step 8:
Apply the Diamonds

Press the diamond onto the corresponding symbol on the canvas. Repeat the process until all the symbols corresponding to that color are covered.

Step 9:
Move On to the Next Color

Once you have finished with one color, move on to the next. Repeat the process until your painting is complete.

Step 10:
Seal and Frame Your Painting

After you’ve applied all the diamonds, you can seal your painting to ensure the diamonds stay in place. Once it’s dry, your diamond painting is ready to be framed and displayed!

Remember, diamond painting is a relaxing activity meant to be enjoyed. Take your time and enjoy the process!

Washi Tape Set

Washi Tape Set

You don’t have to use tape, but if you want to work in sections and not rip the whole protective cover off at once, washi tape can help keep areas covered until you are ready to work on them. Plus, this tape is super cute and fun to use in scrapbooking and other art projects.

Diamond Painting Kit Moons and Mushrooms

Diamond Painting Kit Moons and Mushrooms

After completing the entire Peakacho (Cam started and never finished!) I ended up ordering myself a cute scene that I wanted to do myself. I finished this sweet moon piece and now I want to find somewhere to find it. I love the peachy cream colors. The black was harder to do than I thought. It was sometimes hard to see the exact spot to place the diamond, but I think it turned out nice.
